Move a young person to another home
Changing the home is a formal placement change: the old placement is ended and a new one opened. Records stay where they were written.
Changing the Home on a young person's record is not a tidy-up. ARC treats it as a placement change and writes it into their placement history, which is the part an inspector reads.
What ARC does when the home changes
Three things, in one transaction:
- The current placement is ended, dated the day the new one starts, and marked with the reason "Moved to another home".
- A new placement is opened at the receiving home from that date.
- The young person's current home becomes the new one, and their placement end date is cleared — they are live at the new home, not closed at the old one.
The placement history keeps both. Nothing is overwritten.
Records written at the previous home stay there
Logs, journals and incidents recorded at the old home keep that home's identity. They are not moved, re-filed or hidden — the previous home's record of the placement remains its own.
This is deliberate. The record of what happened at a home should stay attached to that home.
Make the move
-
Open the young person's record. Sidebar, Company Admin, the Children tile, then Edit on their row. The page is headed Edit Child — "Update placement details or archive".
-
Change the Home. The picker lists active homes in your company.
-
Set the Placement Start Date to the date they moved. This is the date used both to end the old placement and to open the new one. Leave it blank and ARC uses today.
-
Select Save changes.
Get the date right
The date you put in Placement Start Date becomes the boundary between the two placements. If you are recording a move that happened last week, enter last week's date — not today's — or the history will show them at the old home for days they were not there.
Before you move someone
Check who works at the receiving home. A young person's record is readable by that home's members, so a move changes who can see them. See Assign people to homes.
Check the receiving home is active — a draft or suspended home will not appear in the picker.
If they are leaving care rather than moving
Do not point them at another home. Set a Placement End Date on the record they already have, and archive them when the placement is over — see Archive a young person.
