The timeline
The chronological spine of a young person's record — what it shows, how far back it goes, and what it deliberately leaves out.
The timeline is the record read in order: what happened, when, and who wrote it. Open Timeline in the record areas on the young person's profile, or select View full timeline from the Overview.
What appears on it
Two things:
- Logs — the daily logs written about the young person, including logs from the log types your company has set up. A log flagged as safeguarding shows as Safeguarding. A safeguarding or restricted log carries a Private tag.
- Contact logs — shown as Contact Log, titled with the contact type (for example Family Contact), the method in brackets, and who was involved.
A log from a restricted log type appears only if your role is allowed to read that type in the home it was recorded in. If it is not, it is left out of your timeline.
Everything else on the record — incidents, plans, chats — has its own area. It is not folded into the timeline.
Reading an entry
Entries are grouped under a heading for each day. Each one shows the title, the type, the time and the author. Logs read as Type: the first part of what you wrote, so the timeline is skimmable without opening anything.
On the right sits a status: logs read Submitted, contact logs read Logged or Reviewed.
An entry from one of your company's own log types can be opened from the timeline to see its fields and files. The other entries cannot be opened from here; go to the record's own area to see the detail.
How far back it goes
Seven days. The timeline is built from logs and contact logs from the last seven days only. Older entries are not further down the page — they are not loaded at all.
The Timeline area shows the ten most recent, and Load older events… brings in ten more at a time, up to the whole of that seven-day window. The Overview's Recent activity card shows the latest six.
It follows the young person, not the home
The timeline spans every home the young person has been placed in, not just the one you have selected. If they moved from another of your company's homes, the logs from that placement stay on their timeline.
If it is empty
"Nothing recorded yet" means nothing has been logged about this young person in the last seven days. It does not mean the record is empty — the rest of the record is unaffected.
