Ofsted inspection records
Log an inspection visit, record the judgements and requirements, and track the actions arising through to sign-off.
Ofsted Inspections is the home's own record of a visit — the date, the judgements, the report reference, and what has to be done as a result. It is a record you keep, not a live view for an inspector. Giving an inspector access to the home's records is a separate thing, described in Give an inspector access — the card for it sits on this same page.
The page is home-level, in the sidebar under Compliance, and any member of the home can log and update a visit. Only a manager can sign one off.
Log a visit
Select Log inspection. The dialog is headed Log an Ofsted inspection: "Record the visit date, type, judgement grades, any statutory requirements, and recommendations."
Two fields are required:
- Inspection date
- Inspection type — Full inspection, Monitoring visit, Focused inspection or Short inspection
Everything else is optional:
- Report reference (optional) — the URN or Ofsted reference
- Judgement grades for Overall effectiveness, Experiences and progress of children, How well children are helped and protected, and Effectiveness of leaders and managers. Each takes Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement or Inadequate
- Summary
- Requirements (statutory — must be addressed)
- Recommendations
Select Log inspection to save. Editing later only changes the fields you send — leaving a box alone will not blank it.
Actions arising
Expand an inspection card to reach Actions arising, then select Add action. Each action takes a Description, an optional Due date and an optional Completed on date.
Each action shows its own status, worked out from those two dates:
| Badge | When |
|---|---|
| Complete | A completion date is recorded |
| Overdue | A due date has passed and it is not complete |
| Open | Everything else |
The counts roll up onto the inspection card as an N overdue or N open badge, so an inspection with unfinished business is visible without opening it.
Sign off
A manager signs the record off with Sign off, and a green Signed off badge appears. It happens once — a second attempt is refused with "This inspection has already been signed off." Anyone else is refused with "Only managers can sign off Ofsted inspections."
Signing off does not close the actions. They keep their own status, and an overdue action stays overdue on a signed-off inspection.
