Give pocket money from the tin
Move money from the home's cash or card into a young person's pot, so the tin and the young person's balance both stay right.
Pocket money comes out of the home's tin and goes into one of the young person's pots. Recording it as a move does both halves at once: one entry on the account, one on the pot.
Move the money
On the young person's Finances page, choose Move money.
| Field | |
|---|---|
| From | One of The home's accounts, or one of The child's pots that holds money. Required |
| To | The pot receiving it. Required |
| Amount (£) | Greater than zero. Required |
| Date and time | Defaults to now |
| Description | Leave blank and ARC writes "Moved from … to …" |
| Receipt / reference | e.g. an envelope or receipt number |
For a cash account the form reminds you to count it out before you move it. Moving from one pot to another only works up to what the first pot holds.
Choose Move money. On the pot the entry reads From the home; on the account it reads Moved to a child.
If the move takes the account below zero it is still recorded, and the managers are told.
After you record it
- Someone else must sign it off. A move from a home account cannot be signed off by whoever recorded it, from either side.
- Until it is signed off, only you or a manager can change it. Changing the amount, time or wording changes both sides. Which pots it joins cannot be changed — record a new move instead.
- You need to work in the home the account belongs to; an invitation to another home is not enough.
- A manager who deletes it deletes both sides together.
A home that has not yet opened its tin may still see Petty cash as a source. It goes once the home's cash account has been opened.
