Statement of Purpose and Children's Guide
Hold the home's Regulation 16 documents, publish new versions, and keep the annual review from slipping.
This page holds two documents for the home: the Statement of Purpose and the Children's Guide. The page describes them as "Regulation 16 / Schedule 1 documents for this home."
Everyone in the home can read what is here. Creating a version, editing one and publishing it are reserved for the home's manager and for company admins — but the on-screen controls are drawn only for someone whose home role is manager. A company admin who is not a manager of this home will not see New version or Publish, even though the request would be allowed.
The rest of this article is written for the manager holding the documents.
The two sections
The page shows Statement of Purpose and Children's Guide one above the other. Each shows its current document, with older ones folded away behind a "N previous versions" link. Nothing is replaced — a new version sits alongside the old ones.
Add a version
-
Select New version in the section you want (or Create first version if the section is empty).
-
Choose the Document type. Statement of Purpose or Children's Guide. You set this once, when you create the record — it cannot be changed by editing.
-
Enter a Title. Required. ARC will not save without one.
-
Add the Content (optional). Paste or type the document text.
-
Set the Annual review due date (optional). This is the date the status turns on — see below.
-
Set the Date provided to Ofsted (optional).
-
Select Create draft.
Draft, Current, Overdue
The status badge is worked out, not chosen:
| Badge | When |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not published yet |
| Current | Published, and the review date has not passed |
| Overdue | Published, and the annual review date has passed |
If any document is overdue, a red Annual review overdue flag appears at the top of the page.
A document with no review date never turns Overdue. The field is optional and ARC does not fill it in for you, so a Statement of Purpose can sit as Current indefinitely. If you want the page to chase you, set the date.
Publish
Select Publish on a draft. ARC records who published it and when, and notifies every member of the home. It also notifies them when a version is first created, so the team sees both the draft and the release.
Publishing happens once. A second attempt is refused with "This document has already been published." To change a published document, edit it — the edit is kept as a new version.
Why publishing matters beyond this page
The published Statement of Purpose is the one other parts of ARC read. When someone compiles a Regulation 44 review, ARC pulls in the most recently published Statement of Purpose as the version the independent visitor reviewed practice against. A draft is not picked up.
